With the Olympics over, there's now only one sports show on TV that can hold my interest: Full Metal Jousting on the History Channel on Friday nights.
The show chronicles the gradual whittling down of 16 wannabe knights - from a variety of backgrounds - down to a final victor who rides off with the $25,000 grand prize.
This is real, full-on, jousting - rather than the pantomime/Ren Faire jousting I saw at Leeds Castle - with wicked, Iron Man-styled armour (see picture above) and 11ft, solid wooden lances.
I first heard about this show in the middle of last year and have been eagerly waiting for it to arrive in the UK. Luckily Nick spotted it in the TV listings and let me know it was starting last Friday.
And while the wait has been rather galling as the show has already aired in the States, it was well worth it. The combination of competition with edutainment was a winner for me - helping me improve my superficial knowledge of this great sport while really hooking me in to cheer the knights on.
I translated jousting into my Tekralh RPG setting at the start of the year and you can check out the rules for it here.
