Much like Full Metal Jousting the other year, The Quest looks like a reality TV show made just for me (which means it's probably doomed to get chopped after a single season, and before it even airs over here in the UK).
ABC's The Quest, which premières in America on July 31, is described as:
"a new reality adventure that takes 12 lucky contestants on the journey of a lifetime when they enter the world of Everealm. For The Quest, the Executive Producer of the blockbuster movie franchise The Lord of the Rings has joined forces with the creators and producers of The Amazing Race to conjure a land of magic and malevolence, where mythical creatures lurk in the woods, agents of darkness stir in the shadows, and mystical beings infiltrate the keep. For 12 lucky souls, a fantastic world will come alive in a unique competition series where players will engage in epic challenges. Fantasy meets reality when one player emerges as a real-life hero."
And check out this trailer. I don't think it looks half-bad (certainly not cheap, anyway), kind of The Crystal Maze meets LARP meets mid-budget fantasy film. However, like a computer game preview, I wonder how much of this is actual "game play footage"...
Thanks to Heroes & Other Worlds' +c.r. brandon for pointing this show out on his Sword & Shield blog.
