|John's not feeling quite himself at present...|
With The Flash and Arrow not due back until next month (February 10 and 12 respectively), and God alone knowing when Gotham (on Channel 5) and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (on Channel 4) will return, at least Amazon's Prime Instant Video streaming service has brought back Constantine just a day after it resumed in the States.
And given the swirling rumours about the show's fate and that it might not get a second season, Constantine came back fighting.
The Saint Of Last Resorts - Part Two picked up the action from the cliffhanger ending of the pre-Christmas episode with gut-shot and dying John Constantine (Matt Ryan) letting his defences down to call the demon king Pazuzu to heal his body and fend off the attacking critter.
John and his team then have to race against time to exorcise the demon from John before it takes total control of his body.
This is complicated by John being thrown into a brutal Mexican prison for slaughtering five gangbangers.
The climax of the episode is a spectacular exorcism sequence, combining a fine performance by Ryan, cracking special effects and atmospheric lighting. Good stuff for a mainstream TV show.
If Constantine can keep up this intensity for the remainder of its run then I can't see why it wouldn't merit at least another season.
Gotham has just been renewed for a second year and that started off almost as shakily, although it did pick up in the last handful of episodes before the Christmas hiatus.
And as for Agent Carter in the UK? Who knows! The situation is getting totally ridiculous. With the show garnering glowing reviews in the States and a British actress in the lead role I simply can't understand why no UK broadcaster is picking this up.
I can buy Agent Carter comics from my friendly, local comic book store, I can buy Agent Carter posters and other trinkets online, I can even pre-order the Agent Carter 'making of' slipcase hardback book from Amazon... I just can't (legally) see the show itself in this country.
