Today is Barney's third birthday.
By my calculations that puts him in the "late teenage/early 20s" age bracket in human terms. He's certainly calmed down a lot since his 'riotous' early teens (much more open to random stroking by his humans). Although it's still not uncommon to find his hay rack torn off the wall and cast down at a wonky angle in the sawdust after he's had a wild night!
The paving slab we now put his food bowl on has proved incredibly popular - he quite often nudges the bowl off (once he's eaten his daily allotment of nuggets) so he can rest there. But the main thing is that it keeps his claws worn down, so we're not taking him to the pet shop every couple of months to get them clipped.
For his birthday this morning I gave Barney a special portion of carrot peelings (from the meal I cooked for Rachel last night and set aside especially for today), a new salt lick, and a selection of small chew toys.
