With the comic book Guardians Of The Galaxy reduced to the "goofballs of the Galaxy", operating as a sub-sub-team of The Avengers, thanks to an inability to grasp the concept of 'cosmic storytelling' by Brian Michael Bendis (and others), I've reluctantly shelved the Guardians from my post-Secret Wars pull-list.
Instead, I will be relying on the upcoming cartoon to get my fix of Guardians goodness.
Of course, the animation - being on Disney XD - is aimed at kids, but then so is Star Wars Rebels and that kicks all kinds of ass!
The official synopsis for the show is:
Guardians Of The Galaxy follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.According to Hypable, the show officially premieres in the States on September 27, but the first episode is debuting early, airing September 5. And throughout August, Disney XD is screening a series of 10 two-minute shorts revealing the origins of each member of the team.
Let's hope Guardians Of The Galaxy make it to this side of The Pond in a hurry!
