Writer Alex J. Cavanaugh is a fan of all things science fiction, his interests ranging from books and movies to music and games. Online he is the Ninja Captain and founder of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group. He’s the author of Amazon best-sellers CassaStar, CassaFire, CassaStorm, and Dragon of the Stars. His eponymous blog can be found here.
How long have you been blogging, and how’d you get into it in the first place?
November 9 will make six years. I started blogging when my publisher told me to get my butt online and start building a web presence.
What do you blog about and how frequently do you post?
I blog about movies, books, music, science fiction, and other geek stuff. My posts are usually packed with a lot of information. I’ve found that posting once a week on Mondays works best for me.
How does your blog stand out from all the rest?
I’ve been told my blog is one-stop shopping for entertainment and blogging news.
What’s the best (and worst) thing about blogging?
The best thing is all of the friends I’ve made over the years. You can’t put a price on that. The worst thing is when those friends fade away from the blogging world.
Do you have any self-imposed rules (or guidelines) for your blog?
I won’t post if I can’t return comments. I won’t accept ads on my blog and the only people I will promote on my site are blogger buddies.
Name one blog everyone should be reading (other than your own).
Brandon and Bryan’s A Beer for the Shower. Those guys are hilarious. (And if you’re a writer, I’d add the Insecure Writer’s Support Group)

Excellent choice. Been following Alex for years.
ReplyDeleteAlex is indeed one of the best! He's the first person I ever followed when I started blogging, and I'm glad I did.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy reading his comments at the many blogs that I often visit... seems to be a very good person... nice choich, good Sir...
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Tim!
ReplyDeleteLG, I appreciate that.
Thank you all for your comments and continued support of this feature. And particular thanks, of course, to Alex for being this week's "victim" ;)
ReplyDeleteSix years, wow!
ReplyDeleteA Beer for the Shower...ha! I'll have to check the site out.
Alex is a model blogger. Funny how his publisher forced him to get online, but he made a whole community out of it that supports other writers. I love the IWSG.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shell!
ReplyDeleteSix years — wow. I'm not even at two yet. Thanks, Alex, for the IWSG! It's the best group for writers! Here's to many more years online!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great blog here. I'll certainly have to come back. Glad to see I'm not the only one counting down the days till the next Star Wars. My brother in law rented.
ReplyDeleteAlex - Once a week seems to work best. Now that I'm in a few blog hops, I seem to do a little more than once a week now. Especially when dates collide.
So what's the story behind the guitar ninja? I don't believe I've ever heard it.
Welcome aboard, Jeffrey! I post a variety of material (as well as Star Wars bits and bobs), so hopefully there'll be some other items of interest along the way ;)
DeleteWow, six years. Alex makes it seem as if he was born doing this. He's the only faceless blogger that can charm anyone and recruit them into his ninja army. He's such a genuine person, offering guidance freely and being an example for others to follow. He rocks!
ReplyDeleteGlad to visit this blog; will definitely have a look around.
Welcome aboard, Toinette! As I said to Jeffrey above, I post a lot of stuff here, so hopefully some of it will take your fancy. Thanks for looking!
DeleteHey, a blogging anniversary coming up soon. It is sad when bloggers fade away and A Beer for the Shower is a must stop blog as well as IWSG.
ReplyDeleteIt's been six years? Wow! I agree - it stinks when blogger friends fade away. Life happens. Great recommendation on Beer for the Shower!
ReplyDeleteYay, Alex!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, there are times when you have just too much awesome stuff all packed into one blog post!
Heather
Nice to learn more about Alex! I agree, the best thing about blogging is the people you meet. Thanks to you both for sharing the post!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for dropping by and checking out my little blog of rambles.
ReplyDeleteWhen I started this iteration of my Six Of The Best column, with its new focus on 'blogging best practice', Alex was one of the 'named bloggers' that I really wanted to interview.
So I'm really pleased that he agreed and that the interview is letting you learn a bit more about him.
Lori, I'm glad you feel that way about the IWSG.
ReplyDeleteJeffrey, I guess I need to post about him Wednesday...
Toi, thank you!
Heather, like today? Yeah, it overflowed a bit...
Tim, thanks again, and thanks everyone for visiting HeroPress!
Great interview!
ReplyDeleteB&B are awesome. I like your blog rules :)
ReplyDeleteAlex, you are a great source of blogging and entertainment news, I have enjoyed participating in a couple blog hops you introduced me to.
ReplyDeleteTim, I see Star Wars, Marvel, and Doctor Who...I like your blog already :)
I always knew the "geeks would inherit the Earth" and now all thing things I've loved since childhood are de rigueur around the globe ;)
DeleteWelcome to HeroPress!
Not wishing to sound like a stuck record, but thank you all again for popping in and checking out my interview with Alex.
ReplyDeleteThank you also for sticking around (I see a number of you have 'joined' my Band Of Brothers & Sisters), and, as I've said elsewhere, if any of you would like to take part in this feature, to promote your own blogs and share your thoughts on blogging, please get in touch.
Elizabeth, thank you!
ReplyDeleteAlex is the kind of big brother blogger you hate to tell your teacher you're related to because she will always point out how much better Alex does it than you. But you still love him, cause big brothers rock and constantly do favors for you that you don't really deserve.
ReplyDeleteHa ha! What a brilliant (and accurate) summation of Alex's persona in the blogging community.
DeleteYes, Alex rocks, highlights and show cases others~ He is a leader with a big heart!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I would defend you against such accusations!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ella.
