I've spoken a number of times on HeroPress about Aaron Allston's legendary gaming supplement Strike Force, but the late author's seminal tome has long been out of print and hard to come by.
Until now. High Rock Press will be publishing an expanded second edition of the book later this year.
The Kickstarter campaign to fund this hit its primary goal of $20,000 in four days and is now heading into stretch goal territory, which will see the book (hopefully) published with full colour artwork and in hardback.
The world-famous author ran his home campaign from 1981 to early 2003, and died in February 2014 at the too-young age of 53, leaving hundreds of pages of notes on his games, that form the backbone of the expansion to the original book.
Described as a "superhero setting like no other", Strike Force is a "role-playing game campaign book that includes techniques and lessons from over 22 years of play. A tribute to one of the greatest creators in the RPG industry, created using Champions 6th Edition."
Whether you play Champions or not, supers games or not, and even with the recent insane hike in the cost of international postage (so much for a global marketplace!), this is a worthwhile investment.
Strike Force is the definitive blueprint for long-running campaign management in the style of classic comic books, with guidelines on how to bring numerous tropes from that medium to your table.
Check out the book's Kickstarter page to see the various levels of investment and learn a lot more about the book's background and the plans High Rock Press has for the second edition.
Although the book, like the original, contains stats for the Hero System (as used in Champions), even the lowest level of investment (PDF copy of the book) will get you packages that present the heroes and their enemies in other rules systems, such as Mutants and Masterminds, ICONS, and Savage Worlds.
