A new (German) trailer has emerged for the incredible-looking Russian superhero film, Guardians (aka Zaschitniki) - featuring Soviet speedster Khan (Sanzhar Madiev) demonstrating his mastery of bladed combat.
I first wrote about this $20 million movie back in October, soon after principal photography had wrapped, and now Dread Central is reporting that the film is "in post-production and is scheduled for a release in Russia next February".
Set during the Cold War, Guardians deals with a secret organization called Patriot, which has created a squad of superheroes to secretly protect the Soviet Union. However, a problem has now arisen that will bring the heroes into the light.
Besides Khan, the superteam includes: Arsus aka Wildman (Anton Pampushniy), a mighty shapeshifting werebear; Ler aka Landman (Sebastian Sisak Grigoryan), a hero with telekinetic power over rocks and earth; and Xenia aka Waterwoman (Alina Lanina), a fast and agile aquatic superhero who can survive in any environment without oxygen.
Already generating plenty of buzz around this corner of the Internet, Guardians, directed by Armenian director Sarik Andreasyan, will be the first Russian superhero movie and, hopefully, we'll soon learn who will be distributing it in the West.
