Russia's Fantastic Four Ready To Go Toe-To-Toe With Western Superheroes...
A new (sub-titled) trailer has been released for wild Russian superhero flick Zaschitniki (Guardians).
Due out in Russia on February 23 next year, Guardians (Защитники) is poised to take this traditionally American-dominated genre by storm.
Russia's first superhero movie is abut a secret organization called Patriot, which has created a squad of supersoldiers to secretly protect their homeland.
However, after the fall of the Soviet Union, a problem has arisen that will bring the heroes into the public eye.
The $20 million movie stars stars Anton Pampushniy (Arsus), Sanzhar Madiev (Khan), Sebastien Sisak (Ler) and Alina Lanina (Xenia) as the four genetically-modified individuals given superpowers that reflect the ideals of the USSR.
The Soviet-era superteam are: speedster Khan, who wields a pair of deadly curved blades; Arsus aka Wildman, a mighty shapeshifting werebear; Ler aka Landman, a hero with telekinetic power over rocks and earth; and Xenia aka Waterwoman, a fast and agile aquatic superhero who can survive in any environment without oxygen.
They must stand together to fight supervillain August Kuratov (Stanislav Shirin), whose Modul-1 engine allows him to control technology and create an army of clones to take over Moscow... and then the world.
