|Definitive Proof Of The Mothman... Or Just An Owl With A Snake In Its Talons?|
With the rapid advances in modern photographic technology you have to wonder why we aren't flooded with crystal clear images of UFOs or cryptids? Or even ghosts?
Possibly because they don't actually exist?
In your roleplaying games, especially contemporary era, investigative-style settings, there's always the cushion of belief granted by the player's knowledge that "monsters" do exist because it's part of the game's setting.
But wouldn't it be nice to experience genuine surprise at your table by springing an actual ghost encounter in your espionage game or a UFO abduction in your true crime game?
There have recently been a couple of news stories doing the rounds that proport to present evidence of genuine cryptids (but probably don't) that might serve as an initial stimulus for an adventure idea:
- Photographs from West Virginia that could be The Mothman (looks like an owl with a snake in its talons to me)
- Footage from China 'just happens' to catch a dragon in flight (I call shenanigans on this one as well).
