As some of you already know, it is my dream to run an open-ended superheroes campaign for the Tuesday Knights (probably using the Third Edition of Villains & Vigilantes, once it's published).
However, I feel a key ingredient to such an elusive formula is superhero player-characters with iconic origin stories.
Stories that define their character and open the way to an endless supply of sub-plots - as well as major plots.
However, while the Tuesday Knights are all veteran roleplayers, not all are equally au fait with the concept of superhero characters - and what works and what doesn't.
To better get my point across, I found this recent Comic Book Resources list of The 15 Easiest Ways To Gain Superpowers.
By no means is this a definitive list (and some of these are probably more viable than others), but it's a very good place to start if you're looking for ideas for how your human character becomes superhuman.
The list includes this selection of comic book classics:
- Obtain An Alien Artifact
- Get Bitten By A Radioactive Creature
- Become An Avatar Of An Extra-Dimensional Entity
- Learn Magic
- Go To Another Galaxy
- Be Born Lucky
- Demonic Possession
- Exposure To Radiation
- Technological Enhancement
- Take Super Drugs
- Get Bitten By A Supernatural Creature
- Activate Dormant Superhuman Gene
- Send Yourself Stuff From The Future
- Hang Out With People Who Already Have Superpowers
- Be Rich
Hopefully this will give the imaginations of the Tuesday Knights a solid launch pad from which to start concocting enduring comic book-style origin stories for their characters.
