|Mon-El in Legion costume|
One of the things that I've always loved about the Supergirl TV show (and The Flash before it) was that it embraced the bright, optimistic, fun, aspect of superheroic comic books, rather than going down the dreary, dark, Zack Snyder route of the recent DC movies (and that's worked out so well for them, right?)
But now it appears as though all that has been thrown out of the window, with the big reveal of the costumes for the three members of the Legion Of Super-Heroes that are being introduced.
And the Legion has always been the epitome of bright, cheerful costumes (see picture at bottom of this piece).
I hate to make assumptions about a TV show based only on stills, but the Legion of Super-Heroes is my favourite DC Comics team and I was beyond excited to learn, ages ago, that they would be coming to Supergirl.
I can deal with Brainiac 5's skin not being quite the right shade of green and Saturn Girl's hair not being blonde, but the costumes?
Why, oh why, is there this trend in recent months (see Inhumans, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. etc) for the bland black/darkest blue outfits?
This isn't supposed to be a realistic, battle-ready uniform... this is a superhero costume!
They are all supposed to be distinct, diverse, and unique (again, I refer you to the source material).
Have you forgotten the comics?
Oh, Supergirl, I'm preparing myself to be very disappointed in you.
And that, kinda, breaks my heart...
|This is how I see the Legion, as portrayed in the source material!|
