|Churchill himself: Ian McNeice|
I'm still buzzing from the great time Rachel and I had at Tonbridge's second Comic-Con today.
I really hope this is going to be a fixture on our local calendar now, because this year's event surpassed my expectations.
Although there was no 'Hannah Spearritt' this time, my main goal was to get the two Doctor Who stars on the guest list (Ian McNeice aka Winston Churchill, and Simon Fisher-Becker aka Dorium Maldovar) to sign my Eleventh Doctor Sourcebook for The Doctor Who RPG.
They were both very friendly and more than willing to pose for photographs with me (it was actually Mr McNeice's suggestion).

Once I'd factored in the costs of their autographs, I hadn't planned on spending much else... but, compared to last time, there was so much on offer.
The biggest improvement, for me, was the presence of people actually selling comics (it is called COMIC-Con after all).
It felt like there were almost as many traders as at Cavalier - and I think I ended up spending more than I have in recent years at the town's wargames' show (as you might guess from my purchases, pictured below).
But it wasn't all about the spending. There were lots of people to chat to, lots of cosplayers to admire, and replica props to pose with.
The lovely people from the League Of Non-Aligned Science Fiction Group tried to recruit Rachel and I to their LARPing branch... and as exciting as it sounded I doubt I'd have the stamina for it (even though their main base appears to be close to where Rachel's parents live).

In the end, as well as the celebrity autographs, I came away with a collection of vintage Batman comics, a Flash wallet, a couple of incredible framed faux newspaper front pages (one featuring Spider-Man, the other Bruce Wayne), a couple of official DC short boxes - for comic book storage - and a box of DC character-themed cupcakes (of course).
