When I decided to adopt the meerkat mob at Hemsley Conservation Centre - after my birthday visit there - it wasn't a straight forward decision as I realised I couldn't financially justify continuing my sponsorship of my old chimpanzee pal, Mojo, at Dorset's Monkey World as well.
However, that;s when my wonderful old friends Nick and Clare - and their kids, Bettany and my godson Alec - stepped in and offered to sponsor him on my behalf as a birthday present.
This morning, my new adoption pack arrived from the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre, formalising the arrangement, and sending me an updated photograph of the noble chimpanzee (above), as well as my adoption certificate, membership pass, and newsletter.
Not much has changed in Mojo's life, as he still tends to keep to himself, but that's not necessarily a bad thing as long as he's happy... and all the primates at Monkey World are so well loved and cared for that I have no worries in that department.
So now I'm the proud father of not only a mob of meerkats but Mojo as well; as Nick says: "He has his father's eyes!"
And, of course, we can't forget our actual - rather than virtual - fur-babies Alice and Barney, as well as Buddy, the guide dog for the blind, who we are sponsoring through his training.
