Given that Star Trek: Lower Decks developed by Rick and Morty head writer and executive producer Mike McMahan, there's a strong (if toned down) Rick and Morty vibe to that trailer.
I'll definitely watch Lower Decks whenever it materialises over here, because it looks very funny, but I have to be honest and say: I don't get it as part of the Star Trek brand.
It's obviously full of Easter Eggs and callbacks to the classic shows, and is supposedly part of the franchise's continuity (being set in 2380, about a year after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis and about 19 years before Star Trek: Picard).
However, and I know I'm going to sound a bit like an entitled Trekkie here, it feels too chaotic and dysfunctional to be true Star Fleet.
I'd like to hear what other, more knowledgeable, Star Trek fans have to say on the matter.
