I've always had a soft spot for audiobooks, but as I've grown older and more decrepit they have become my preferred method for digesting the written word.
Just look over in the right-hand column of this blog - between the quotes from readers and the link to my most recent anniversary post - and you'll find the cover picture of my current audiobook and a list of everything I've listened to since I joined Audible in January 2020.
Prior to that I'd just been buying audiobooks from a variety of sources, ranging from Big Finish (purveyors of fine Doctor Who tales, often featuring the long-running show's original cast) to Graphic Audio (suppliers of "a movie in your mind", incredible full-cast audios, with a lot of superhero and comic book properties in their portfolio).
And speaking of Graphic Audio, it has recently been announced that they are working with Archie Comics on a line of Archie full-cast audiobooks, kicking off with the three-hour Archie in Will You Marry Me?, aka The Archie Wedding, on May 12.
It's the wedding of the century and the story you've waited a lifetime for!
Archie finally marries Betty! ...and Veronica?
Almost 80 years in the making!
But is this really the end of the classic love triangle between Archie, Veronica, and Betty?
Will the Riverdale gang ever be the same? Do Archie and Veronica live happily ever after?
Follow the celebrated story - originally published in the pages of Archie #600-605 - from proposal to wedding and beyond!
Listen as Archie and Veronica start a family and navigate the ups and downs of married life as one of the most famous comic couples of all time!
Written by life-long Archie Comics fan and movie producer Michael Ulsan, and with acclaimed Archie artist Stan Goldberg, this timeless story about growing up is jam-packed with the hilarious antics and touching sentiment only Archie & Co. can bring you.
Adapted from the graphic novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music.A fair bit of Graphic Audio's catalogue is available through Audible, so I'm hoping this will be pop up over there eventually, as this is a world I'd like to revisit.
When it comes to the original comics I'm a Team Betty lifer, but in the live-action Riverdale universe I'm Team Veronica, so in which direction will the audio pull me?
The next collaboration between Graphic Audio and Archie Comics will be a two-hour adaptation of the horror title Vampironica on May 19.
Veronica Lodge, a cheerleader at Riverdale Senior High who becomes a strigoi or a vampiress after being bitten by Ivan, a blood sucker, hundreds of years her senior.
Forced to contend with this new, radical transformation, Veronica must deal with the prospect of feeding on her own small-town cohorts.
She protects the people of Riverdale from other vampires as she attempts to break the curse on her and the other victims by destroying the master vampire.
Archie Horror's latest series paints Riverdale red in the vampiric first collection by siblings Greg & Megan Smallwood!
Adapted from Vampironica issues #1–5 and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music.
