Rise, by David Karlak
It’s us or them.
This is the dark conclusion that humans have reached in David Karlak’s short film “Rise.” In the near future, robots have developed advanced emotional sophistication and their human creators don’t like it. What should have been a simple and violent extermination of artificial life proves harder when a captured robot demonstrates that the human aggressors are biting off more than they can chew.
Our team loves the short for its impressive visual effects and character driven story. The late Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin delivers an especially strong performance that gets viewers to sympathize with the plight of a creation that is no longer wanted by its creator.

The Walking Dead: All Out War - Miniature Size Comparisons...

This year's Christmas present to myself, after much head-scratching and research, was Mantic's The Waling Dead: All Out War core set, and a couple of expansions, because (a) ZOMBIES!!! and (b) it has really simple, and evocative, solo rules.
So far I've read the quickstart (but haven't given it a run through yet), watched the 'how to play'videos on Mantic's YouTube channel, and cooed over the beautifully-detailed, hard plastic sculpts that come in the box.
Naturally, being me, I'm already rifling through my old minis to see which are compatible, and researching online to find more zombie figures to invest in, to build up an unstoppable herd to shuffle from one of the table to the other, as well as contemporary scenery (particularly pre-made buildings that require neither painting not construction, as I am artistically inept) to decorate my table .
Project Z has arisen from its 2012 grave... and 2017 is going to be the year of the zombie...

Entering Sleep Mode...

Fleamarket Friday: Modiphius Brings John Carter's Mars To Your Tabletop...

The first miniature sculpts for the long-gestating John Carter of Mars project have been unveiled by publisher Modiphius (along with a new logo for the line, approved by the Edgar Rice Burroughs Estate).
The miniatures, which are going to be produced in a heroic 32mm scale, are due out next Summer.
At that size, I'm hoping there'll be some overlap with Warlord's new line of Doctor Who figures.
The John Carter of Mars RPG, currently in playtesting, is scheduled for release next Spring, and while I'm supposedly curbing my game buying I can't really say 'no' to a John Carter game.

Spider-Man: Homecoming Looks Both Spectacular And Amazing!
As someone who regularly chastises (playfully) friends for slating films based on their trailers, I don't want to be seen as a gushing fanboy who won't say anything negative about a Marvel-related movie... but Spider-Man: Homecoming looks brilliant!
Tom Holland is perfect as the young Peter Parker and, while this is a Sony project, the movie truly looks and feels like part of the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the last two appalling Spider-Man flicks, it finally looks as though the web-slinger is going to get a live-action outing that truly captures the spirit of the source material.

Teaser For Slick Strontium Dog Fan Flick...
From the team that brought us Judge Minty comes this work-in-progress teaser for Search/Destroy, a fan-film based on the classic 2000AD strip Strontium Dog, by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra the creators of Judge Dredd.
The full film is set t debut at the 2000AD: 40 Years Of Thrill Power Festival in London on February 11, marking the legendary comic's landmark anniversary.
