This is my 10,000th blog post. Ten thousand posts in ten years of blogging.
Who'd have believed I could hit such a landmark? Certainly not me. I've never even held down a real job for as long as this!
Nine years and six months in and I still haven't really settled on a focus for HeroPress, tighter than "geeky stuff I like", but it's worked so far.
Honestly, I'd really like to write more posts about roleplaying games and/or comics. With the Tuesday Knights' current three-year Heroes & Other Worlds campaign reaching its climax, I'm hoping that my planned superhero campaign to follow will give me a justification to scratch both those itches.
Admittedly I'm hanging a lot of hope on the upcoming release of Villains & Vigilantes Third Edition...
In the meantime, let's take a quick survey of the content of HeroPress post contents, using the popularity of their tags:
- COOL WEBSITES: what can I say? I love to share links, I think it's a fundamental part of the DIY journalism of blogging. You link to something of interest and you hope that someone who likes what you've written will acknowledge their appreciation through a link from their site.
- FILM: A major passion of mine, much like...
- TV: Couldn't live without it.
- RPG: One of my core, enduring, hobbies.
- TRAILER: As an adjunct to my love of film and television, I enjoy sharing trailers and clips from movies and shows that I think other people should know about.
- REAL LIFE: With our ever-growing family of fur-babies (Barney the bunny and Alice the eternal puppy), Rachel and I have our hands full. And sadly, despite mountains of comics and DVDs, and multiple games to play, there's no (safe or sane) long-term way of escaping real life. Sometimes even I have to live in the real world, and sometimes the real world comes a-knockin'.
- COMICS: My other long-lasting hobby.
- DVD: Supplemental to my enjoyment of films and TV is the hobbyist collector in me who likes to have his films lined up on shelves, in artfully-decorated boxes. Yes, I'm a hoarder!
- DR WHO: Still a surprisingly popular tag despite the fact that Stephen Moffat has systematically dismantled any interest I had in this show.
- HORROR: The young contender, finally breaking its way into the top ten tags, due to it being one of my favourite genres of film and TV (see above).
So, that's a taste of what the last 10,000 posts have been about; let's see where the next 10,000 will take us.
And, as ever, a massive thank you to you, the reader, for taking the time to read my rambles.
To quote Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z: "IT'S OVER 9000!"
ReplyDeleteThat quote is totally lost on me ;-) But thank you!

DeleteI sometimes forget that not everybody watched the same shows growing up. :P
I have no idea what other people would make of the shows we grew up watching over here in the UK!
DeleteCongrats sir! You make fine blog, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThank you. If I ever got to produce content half as good as The Land Of Nod, I'd be delighted.
DeleteWhat a feat! Time and effort well spent. I kinda missed out on your first few thousand, so I might have to start from the beginning...
ReplyDeleteCheers, mate!
DeleteI wouldn't bother with the really old stuff, most of it is quite scrappy; I hadn't settled on a house style back then.
Congratulations! How long have you been counting down to the big day?
ReplyDeleteAbout a month ;-) It was Paul (commentator above) who asked me when I would be approaching that target, as I hadn't even given it much thought!
DeleteWow !! That is a Lot of posts, good Sir !
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteWe have only done over 6,000 in almost 5 years...
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive tally!
DeleteThank you good Sir...!!!
DeleteBig congrats, man!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteHuge accomplishment. I know what it's like to commit to a project like this for a decade. I never miss a post.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cal. Your perseverance and dedication to the art of blogging has long been an inspiration to me.
