|Hallway cleared to make way for sofas being moved in and out of the lounge...|
The other week we were this close to buying a new house. But it was an attractive house in a great location, which meant we were up against people who were able to offer more than we could and were in a better position to sell their own houses.
Therefore Rachel saw this as a good time to smarten up our lovely little house, and invest in some sofas for the lounge.
An afternoon in DFS and new sofas were secured, to be delivered today. All we needed to do was get rid of the old ones.

I phoned the British Heart Foundation and they were scheduled to pick up our old sofas this morning.
I cleared up downstairs, moved everything out of the hallway, and the delivery men from BHF turned up...
...and promptly told us that because our sofas weren't in pristine condition they couldn't take them.
Then they left... with us in a state of mild panic, knowing the new sofas were due in a few hours.
Rachel called round a number of other charities, but most weren't interested and the one that was couldn't collect until January as his warehouse was full!
Eventually, my superhuman wife - with minimal assistance from me - manoeuvred the old sofas into our dining room - which makes access is verboten until we can find someone willing to take them.
It also means next week's games' night will be in the lounge - marking a distinct change of setting and possibly establishing a trend for even more casual gaming in the New Year!

Add to this that both Barney and Alice had follow-up appointments at the vet's this morning (Alice has been having dental issues and Barney's getting his annual vaccinations), which meant poor Rachel had to take them both - as I needed to wait in for the BHF removal men (they actually arrived just as she was returning).
Both our fur babies behaved impeccably, but all this disruption has been very confusing to Alice (Barney's just his usual sullen self).
It has also left us rather pissed off with the British Heart Foundation: if our sofas had been in the immaculate condition they seemed to be demanding we wouldn't have been getting rid of them in the first place!
But at the end of the day (well, 3pm), the wonderful, friendly, DFS delivery men arrived with our brand new sofas, so we're very happy.
There'll probably be some rearranging of lounge furniture in the near future, but for the time being we're just going to collapse on our comfortable new sofas.
