I don't usually cover movie projects when they're at such an early stage, but I couldn't resist mentioning the news that The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ancient Aliens is being turned into a fully-fledged movie.
Yes, that's right, an honest-to-goodness, official Ancient Aliens movie from the team behind the brilliant Cobra Kai.
THR says it:
"...will be a two-handed, globe-spanning adventure featuring ancient sites and artifacts, confronting the theories and questions raised by the popular docuseries."Inspired by the pseudoscience and make-believe perpetrated by the 'legendary' Erich von Däniken in his Chariots of The Gods? books, the whole Ancient Aliens phenomenon has exploded thanks to the TV show, where talking heads cherry pick random objects and happenings from around the globe and extrapolate wildly and speculatively to suggest that this might prove that aliens visited the Earth in the past and helped us build, say, the Pyramids.
It's all baseless nonsense, couched in terms of "you have to wonder...", "you have to ask yourself if...", but it has also long been a gold mine of inspiration for many of my roleplaying game settings, particularly my beloved Knight City - where the aliens really are responsible for guiding mankind's evolution and the birth of the so-called superhero.
So, yes, I will be eagerly awaiting the Ancient Aliens movie, giant-sized bag of Minstrels and cup of Pepsi Max at the ready, to see what I can mine for my future games.
