Monkey is joining the DC Comics Universe in May. Yes, THAT Monkey.
He makes his debut in May's DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration, courtesy of Gene Luen Yang, who penned the excellent recent Shang-Chi mini-series, with art by Bernard Chang.
The Monkey Prince will meet Shazam in a 12-page story as part of the 100-page anthology, published to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Together the heroes will face the evil Dr. Sivana and a Chinese deer demon spirit.
My life-long love of Monkey guarantees I'll be picking this up. You know I even role-played a very similar character - also "inspired by the Monkey King, legendary hero of Chinese mythology and the 16th Century classic tale Journey to the West" - in a short-lived online superhero RPG campaign, several decades ago (via snail-mail in pre-Internet days).
