I wasn't going to back any zines in this year's Zine Quest on Kickstarter (I'm still awaiting delivery on a number from, at least, two years ago that haven't offered any explanations as to their tardiness), but then my pal Justin posted a glowing review of the delightfully named Big Eye Chungus.
Not only did his write-up persuade me to back it, but at a PDF tier as well (trans-Atlantic postage costs are generally prohibitive these days).
I don't usually approve of chunky PDFs - as they tend to sit unread and forgotten on my hard drive - but I have a feeling that, given my current push on my Frankengame, this and an earlier PDF from Planet X Games, Vulgar Display of Magic will both find utility in my envisaged campaign.
Th crowdfunding campaign for Big Eye Chungus, which is already well past its target goal, runs until August 24.
The zine, written by Levi Combs and illustrated by Cheese Hasselberger, is an homage to a certain well-known monster type that cannot be named for legal reasons, and includes:
"...nearly a dozen different variants of the Big Eye Chungus, along with tons of lairs, lore, tactics, adventure hooks and all kinds of details that tell you just why these guy are so bad ass. On top of all that, there’s plenty of random charts and detailed Big Eye Chungus options to round everything out!"Check out the campaign's Kickstarter page to see some interior art and layouts from the zine.
As well as already being funded, so we know it will happen, the zine is also already written and ready to go once the funds clear from Kickstarter.
That means I should get my PDF next month.
