The first publication from The Explorers Club |
As the Dornier came in to land, Buck regaled his fellow travellers - thanks to some multiversal merging of memories from the 1930s and 1950s - with an account of his connection to Rio de Janeiro.
"A dear old friend of mine in Rio, Walter Granger, is the Club President of the legendary Explorers Club. I'm sure you've all heard of that, right?
"He's been known to throw the odd bone in my direction - exploratorily-speaking. Honestly, I'm pretty certain he wants me to join his boys' club full-time and eventually succeed him as president.
"As you can imagine, I don't see myself cut-out for politics. I'm more interested in adventuring.
But you never know, perhaps when I'm older. Never say never, as the Brits say.
"Anyway, it will do us all good to rest, recuperate, sip a few cocktails at the club and recount our latest adventures, before heading on to Antarctica."
