I'm still fuming over the news that broke at the weekend that Disney has pulled the plug on the wonderful Mysterious Benedict Society.
While I can't help but agree with Roger of What's On Disney Plus (see video above) that the second season didn't have quite the spark of the superlative first (which I rated as the best new show of 2021), it was still better than 99 per cent of the formulaic dreck that studios and streamers pump out ad infinitum.
The Mysterious Benedict Society was a perfect mix of talented young actors and an incredible adult cast, with a mid-century European ambience reminiscent of a classic Wes Anderson movie, mixed in with a dash of Tintin and a soupçon of Roald Dahl.
Cut down before its time, the show's second season ended on a cliffhanger that this cast will almost certainly never get the chance to revisit or resolve.
If nothing else, The Mysterious Benedict Society was magnificent inspiration for a Troubleshooters campaign featuring a party of young investigative adventurers.
